Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste Marie and Algoma District would like to express our support of the manslaughter charges laid last week regarding a fatal fentanyl overdose death in Sault Ste Marie.

Crime Stoppers recognizes the opioid epidemic in our District and would like to acknowledge the Sault Ste Marie Police Service for their dedication to pursuing individuals who traffic deadly narcotics in our community.

Crime Stoppers encourages the community to submit information about drug traffickers or information about any crime or suspicious activity.

Crime Stoppers accepts tips 24/7 by phone at 1-800-222-8477, or online at www.saultcrimestoppers.com. You can also submit tips using our P3 app. Your anonymity is 100% guaranteed. You never have to give your name or testify in court. If your tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a reward of up to $2000.

Crime Stoppers is a registered not-for-profit charitable community service program. We are not a law enforcement agency. Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste Marie & Algoma District is run by a volunteer civilian Board of Directors. We are committed to making Sault Ste Marie & Algoma District safer.

In Loving Memory of Helen Calvelli

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our Vice-Chair and Executive Secretary, our friend, and champion of Crime Stoppers, Helen Calvelli. Helen was a cherished director for Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District Inc. It is with heavy hearts that we reflect upon her untimely departure from this world, leaving behind a profound sense of loss and a void that can never be filled. Helen's absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

 

Among her many endearing qualities, her remarkable passion for the Crime Stoppers cause and the offer of anonymity stands out. We fondly recall the countless times she would utter the word "anonymity," which remains a reminder of the importance of our work. 

 

Helen dedicated her time to our Board of Directors from 1990 to 2014 and from 2016 - 2023, an impressive total of 31 years. She was an unstoppable force in promoting our program. Whether it was distributing posters, or attending community events in Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma, planning exceptional dinners such as the Peace Officer of the Year Awards and speaking at fundraising events, Helen did it all. 

 

Helen enjoyed attending the conferences hosted by programs in Ontario, bringing valuable information back to the Board of Directors in our community. She was instrumental in planning the 2013 conference hosted here in Sault Ste. Marie, which is fondly remembered by the 38 Crime Stoppers programs in Ontario as one of the best conferences they have ever been to. 

 

Her dedication to our program is a direct result of our success locally, and her contributions will be remembered with gratitude. 

Beyond her professional achievements as a director, Helen was the spark in the room. She had an uncanny ability to find humor in any situation, lightening the hearts of those around her. All who knew her will always remember her infectious laugh and personality. Her presence had the power to uplift spirits and bring people together. We will forever miss the warmth and positivity she brought into our lives. 

Helen, we are grateful for the privilege of calling you not only a colleague but also a dear friend. Your presence enriched our lives in immeasurable ways, and we will forever cherish the memories we shared. Your laughter, dedication, and unwavering commitment to anonymity will serve as a lasting legacy, inspiring us to continue the vital work we do.

Although our hearts ache with the pain of your loss, we find solace in knowing that you will keep anonymity at the forefront, even from beyond. As we bid you farewell, we offer our heartfelt gratitude for your hard work, dedication, and the immeasurable joy you brought into our lives.

Rest in Peace, dear Helen. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but your spirit will forever guide us.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant is a professional and experienced individual who can work independently to complete general office related duties, assist with financial management, work with committees to implement fundraising and promotional activities, and update our website and social media accounts. The Office Assistant must have excellent communication skills, proficient in computers, and work as a team member. The Office Assistant will be working with the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and Coordinators.

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District are introducing the 12 Days of Christmas Vacation Draw 2021 (Lottery License # M834542). This draw will giveaway 12 trips and 24 cash prizes for a total value of $49,800 from December 1, 2021, through December 12, 2021, in partnership with Expedia Cruises Air, Land, and Sea Vacations. 

The trip draw winners will have six months to claim their prize and decide which prize tier works best for them: 

1. The trip at full value, 

2. A travel voucher with Expedia Cruises at 10% less,

3. a new cash option at 20% less.

Tickets are $150 each and the last day to purchase tickets is November 30, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. 

To secure your tickets, please call (705) 759-5081. Crime Stoppers is accepting Visa Debit, Visa, or MasterCard over the phone. They anticipate a higher volume of calls during this time and ask those interested in tickets to leave a voicemail.

The draws are not publicly accessible but will be live-streamed on Facebook and later posted to the Crime Stoppers website and shared with local media.
