Crime Stoppers Trip of the Month 2027

Get ready to travel in 2027! Crime Stoppers is excited to announce the return of its popular Trip of the Month Vacation Draw after a one year hiatus, with tickets going on sale to the public this week.

For just $150, ticket holders will have the opportunity to win 12 incredible travel prizes throughout 2027, each month they will also draw two cash prizes of $150, a chance to win your money back. With a limited number of tickets available, this exciting fundraiser offers participants multiple chances to win while supporting Crime Stoppers' important work in our community.

The first draw will take place on January 12, 2026, with subsequent draws held throughout 2027. The complete schedule of draw dates and travel prizes will be announced as part of this year's campaign.

For just $150, your ticket gives you 36 chances to win throughout the year, while helping support the work of Sault Ste. Marie & Area Crime Stoppers.

Crime Stoppers Seeking Directors

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is looking for applicants to join it's Board of Directors. We are especially seeking representation from across the district, reaching as far north as Hornepayne and as far east as Algoma Mills, Spragge, Spanish, and Serpent River.

This is a rewarding opportunity to give back to your community and help guide the governance of Crime Stoppers.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be:

At least 18 years old
Not a member of law enforcement, criminal justice, government, or an elected official
Willing to undergo a background check and screening
Available 5–10 hours per month

Board Responsibilities

As a director, you will:

Uphold the bylaws of the organization
Attend monthly board meetings
Plan and support fundraising events and activities
Represent Crime Stoppers in the community
Serve on at least one committee
Offer advice and assistance in your areas of expertise
Serve the organization with integrity

All directors begin with a three-month probationary period and are provided with bylaws, policies, and past minutes for orientation. Within this time, training sessions are held with both the Coordinators and Membership Committee, and each new director is paired with a mentor for additional support.

2026 Heroes of Service Awards
May 14, 2026

On May 13, 2026, Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District proudly hosted the 2026 Heroes of Service Awards at Grand Gardens North, recognizing outstanding individuals, organizations, and frontline professionals whose dedication continues to strengthen communities across Algoma.

The annual event brought together representatives from policing, fire services, emergency response, corrections, youth services, community organizations, and municipal leadership to celebrate those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to public safety, compassion, leadership, and service.

Presented by KC Security Services, alongside Dinner Sponsor SIS Group and Media Sponsor SooToday Spaces, the event welcomed more than 100 guests in recognition of frontline service and community partnership across Northern Ontario.

The Heroes of Service Awards carries a long and meaningful history within the community dating back to 1997, when the event was originally hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce as the Officer of the Year Awards. Crime Stoppers became involved in carrying the tradition forward in 2016 before assuming full responsibility in 2017, later evolving the event into what is now known as the Heroes of Service Awards. While the name and scope have evolved, the purpose has remained the same: recognizing individuals who dedicate themselves to the safety and wellbeing of others throughout the Algoma District.

Crime Stoppers was especially proud to welcome the Spanish Volunteer Fire Department as the first volunteer fire department to participate in the Heroes of Service Awards. Their inclusion represents an important milestone for the event and recognizes the critical role volunteer emergency responders play in protecting and supporting rural and Northern communities across Algoma.

Recipients were selected by their respective participating agencies in recognition of outstanding service, professionalism, leadership, and commitment to the communities they serve.

From time to time, Crime Stoppers presents special recognition awards to individuals or organizations whose contributions have had a meaningful impact on the continued success of the program and its mission within the community. During this year’s event, Crime Stoppers was proud to recognize Expedia Cruises for their partnership and support.

At a critical time for the organization, when one of Crime Stoppers’ most important fundraising initiatives faced uncertainty, Expedia Cruises stepped forward on short notice to help carry forward the longstanding Trip of the Month program. Their willingness to assist during a challenging period helped ensure the continued success of an important Crime Stoppers initiative and demonstrated the value of dependable community partnerships across the Algoma District.

Together, these signature events play a vital role in sustaining Crime Stoppers’ community driven public safety program and its ongoing support of police investigations across the region through the collection of anonymous tips.

Crime Stoppers operates without guaranteed operational funding. Funds raised through these initiatives directly support anonymous tip reporting, rewards, and public awareness efforts that help prevent crime and contribute to community safety throughout the Algoma District.

Heroes of Service Awards – May 13, 2026
Building on the success of its rebranded awards program, the 2026 Heroes of Service Awards will take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. This special evening is dedicated to recognizing the dedication, bravery, and professionalism of Emergency Service Professionals who work every day to protect and support the community.

The awards honour individuals across policing, fire services, paramedic services, corrections, probation and parole, youth justice, and other public safety roles. Participating agencies are invited to nominate a member who has gone above and beyond in their service, with honourees recognized by their peers and leadership during the ceremony.

The Heroes of Service Awards is made possible through strong community partnerships and sponsorship support, including presenting sponsor KC Security Services. Crime Stoppers continues to invite local businesses and organizations to partner in recognizing those who serve with integrity while supporting a proven and effective crime prevention program. Night Light Golf – August 14, 2026
Night Light Golf returns on August 14, 2026, at Silver Creek Golf Course, offering a glow in the dark fundraising experience unlike any other. Tee off takes place at dusk for a 9 hole, best ball tournament that brings together businesses, organizations, and community members in a fun and engaging setting.

The event includes pre game appetizers, glow gear and cart decorating supplies, a late night snack, prizes, and team competitions. With a limited field of 18 teams, early registration is strongly encouraged. Team registration and sponsorship opportunities are now available at www.saultcrimestoppers.com. Proceeds from the Night Light Golf directly fund Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line and local crime prevention initiatives.

$1,000 Guaranteed Minimum Reward Offered for Human Trafficking Tips in 2026

January is Crime Stoppers Month, a time to recognize the vital role Crime Stoppers programs play in keeping communities safe. To mark the occasion, Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is offering a $1,000 guaranteed minimum reward throughout all of 2026 for information that leads to charges being laid in human trafficking cases affecting Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District.

Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing and most underreported crimes in Canada. It often involves the exploitation of vulnerable individuals for sexual or labour purposes through coercion, manipulation, or control. By offering a full year of a guaranteed minimum reward and reinforcing anonymous reporting, Crime Stoppers aims to empower community members to come forward and help protect victims.

“Human trafficking thrives in silence, but when we choose courage, compassion, and action, we turn that silence into freedom and restore dignity to every life,” said Sherri Maguire, Sergeant with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. “I often tell people your story is yours. Whether whispered to one person or shared with the world, it matters, and it has the power to fight human trafficking by turning truth into change.”

Community partnerships remain critical to addressing complex crimes such as human trafficking.

“Safe streets and strong communities are built when people speak up,” said Laurie Graham, Staff Sergeant and Detachment Commander with the Ontario Provincial Police in Sault Ste. Marie. “The OPP values its partnership with Crime Stoppers, the media, and the community, working together to prevent crime and support community well-being. By sharing anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers, community members play a vital role in solving crimes, protecting one another, and strengthening the trust that keeps our neighbourhoods safe. Every tip matters, and sometimes, it saves a life.”

If the information provided leads to charges being laid at any point during 2026, the tipster will receive a minimum reward of $1,000.

January is Crime Stoppers Month

Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District is pleased to announce that January is Crime Stoppers Month. The City of Sault Ste. Marie officially proclaimed January as Crime Stoppers Month on January 12, 2026, with a video proclamation shared on social media recognizing the vital role Crime Stoppers plays in promoting community safety and crime prevention. The video is available for viewing on the charity’s facebook page.

The proclamation underscores the importance of collaboration between the public, law enforcement, and the media, reinforcing the message that preventing and solving crime is a shared responsibility. By encouraging anonymous tip reporting, Crime Stoppers empowers community members to safely provide information without fear of retaliation.

Since its inception, Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District has helped facilitate 4,501 arrests, 2,741 cases cleared, and more than $11 million in property recovered and drugs seized, demonstrating the significant and measurable impact anonymous tips continue to have across the region.

Crime Stoppers is a community-based charitable organization and is not a law enforcement agency. It provides a safe, anonymous way for the public to report information related to criminal activity, including theft, fraud, drug trafficking, cybercrime, vehicle thefts, and other offences. Tipsters never have to identify themselves or testify, and anonymity is always protected.
